Oneonta wrestling falls to Duanesburg

Six victories, including two via fall, were not enough as Oneonta fell to Duanesburg, 42-27, in non-league wrestling Tuesday, Jan. 7, in Oneonta High School’s Drago Gymnasium.

The Yellowjackets closed with three straight wins, beginning with Mateo Goodhue’s 13-8 decision over Ed Bond at 182. Quinten Bissell-Smith followed by pinning Sean Rickert in 2:44 at 195, and Dalton Wells finished the match with a pin of Jacob Suits in 3:10 at 220.

Ardell Wellman picked up a technical fall at 145 for Oneonta, defeating Mamoud Esa in 4:37. Tyler Hasbrouck earned a 9-0 major decision over Zoey Lints at 120, and Shane Howell defeated Daniel Stealy, 8-4, at 113.

Oneonta (10-11) will visit Susquehanna Valley at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8.

Holland Patent 60, Cooperstown/Milford 24

Cooperstown/Milford won four matches in its loss to Holland Patent.

Avery Leonard pinned Kaylee Swalgin in the 126-pound match, Logan Kantor pinned Adam Stowell in the 132-pound match, Henry Loeffler pinned Devon McOwen in the 160-pound match and T.J. O’Connor won by forfeit in the 113-pound match.

Two matches were decided via decision, both going to Holland Patent. Austin Racquet defeated Lucas LoRusso of C/M, 11-7, at 120, and Jordan Koenig defeated Lucian Lytel, 3-2, at 145.

Cooperstown/Milford will visit Canjoharie at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9.


Cooperstown 95, Sherburne-Earlville 59

Ryan Hellenthall won four events as Cooperstown defeated visiting Sherburne-Earlville.

Hellenthal won the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke events with times of 2:01.66 and 1:05.25, respectively.

He also teamed with Simon Hurysz, Gareth Austin and Theo Ignatovski to win the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:30.09. In the 400 freestyle relay, Hellenthal, Andrew Briggs, Mason Raffo and Austin triumphed with a time of 4:17.90.

Hurysz took top honors in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.72, and also won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:17.99. Austin won the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:14.65.


Sidney 4, Afton 0

Three Sidney bowlers recorded games over 200 pins, but Reece Yeomans was not one of them as he led Sidney with a 582 series to defeat Afton/Harpursville in Midstate Athletic Conference action Monday, Jan. 6.

Yeomans opened with a game of 192, pushing his scores to 194 in the second gamd and 196 in the third for the match’s highest series.

Ryan Cole recorded a 206 in his second game to mark the highest sing;e-game score of the match. Teammates Caidyn Lambrecht (205) and Jacob Ostrander (203) also went over 200 for the Warriors (4-2), who totaled 2,737 as a team.

Zach Swisloski had the highest series (480) and game (171) for Afton/Harpursville, which totaled 2,200 pins.
