Brady Young converted four free throws in the last minute of the game to lead Richfield Springs to a 64-60 win over Sauquoit Valley in the first round of its Tip-Off Tournament Friday Nov. 29.

“Young secured the win with four consectutive free throws with less than a minute remaining in the second half,’’ said Indians coach Nathan Rittenburg. Young finished with eight points.

Cameron Duncan scored 19 of his game-high 22 points, including all five of his three-point field goals in the first half and Dylan Hosford had 15 points and a team-high eight steals for Richfield Springs, which finished with 20 steals as a team.

“We moved the ball very well in the first half,’’ said Rittenburg, whose team led, 43-25, at halftime. The Indians received nine points and a team-high 11 rebounds from Austin Bowman.

Jacob Bennett recorded seven points and Darren Brown registered three points for Richfield Springs in its season-opening win.

“We put Bennett on their leading scorer and he did a great job defensively,’’ said Rittenburg.

Seven different players scored for Sauquoit Valley (0-1), which plays Remsen in a consolation game at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Remsen fell to Brookfield in the tournament’s other first round game.

Richfield Springs (1-0) will play Brookfield in the championship game at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30.
