Milford vs. Morris

Milford's Riley Stevens scored four goals as the Wildcats downed Morris, 5-3, in a back-and forth Tri-Valley League contest that opened the season for both teams.

Stevens needed just 57 seconds to give the visiting Wildcats the lead, but Morris hit back with the next two goals. Jacob Goodspeed evened the score after six minutes before assisting JJ Benjamin just after the 16-minute mark.

"I was expecting it to be a really good game and it absolutely was," Milford coach Gregg Eggleston said. "It was a really hard-fought first half, we were feeling really good, and they stormed right back."

The lead returned to Milford after 21 minutes as Stevens scored twice in a 14-second span to make it 3-2. But Cameron Cintron had perhaps the most important goal of the half for Milford, taking an assist from Tobias Green to make the deficit two with one minute remaining before the break.

"Those three just did a tremendous job making a lot of chances and we were able to capitalize on five of them. That's just great for a young team," Eggleston said.

Scott Murphy cut the deficit back to one early in the second half as Goodspeed provided another assist. The deficit remained one until Stevens' final tally with four minutes remaining.

"He (Stevens) played really well. The funny part is he was dwelling on two he missed, meanwhile he scored four. Just a great game," Eggleston said.
